In 2013, I returned to natural - no more chemical relaxers for me! However, my freedom from harsh chemicals quickly led to frustration in my search for suitable natural hair products. My quest eventually led me to experiment with simple, natural butters and oils. After months of trial and error in the kitchen, I created my own hair care products...and learned the same ingredients could be used for soaps and skin moisturizers! Everything I made was designed to withstand the Gulf Coast humidity without the residue of a heavy film.
I shared the butters and soaps with family and friends, who encouraged me to sell my kitchen creations. After a few months of coaxing, in May 2014 I began selling my signature French Lavender Body Butter on Etsy and soon built my own website after its initial success. By day, I worked 50+ hours a week as healthcare administrator. By night, I became a beautypreneur - designing fragrances, making products, and shipping orders. Weekends were spent everywhere from pop ups to fashion shows to church events!
In August 2015, I received a phone call from ESSENCE Magazine. Unknown to me, a family friend had given an ESSENCE staffer a sample of my body butter. The ESSENCE Beauty Editors were looking for emerging brands to feature in their subscription program - The BeautyBox. Was I interested? YES!!! In February 2016, we delivered over 15,000 samples of Pomegranate Kiss Body Butter to the ESSENCE BeautyBox distribution center...and since then, my life hasn't been the same!
